Preschool Storytime

Traditional story time for ages 3-5 years offering book related experiences including picture book reading, storytelling, music, puppets, finger plays, short videos and simple crafts. Not all branches do all things. Attending children need to be mature enough to sit by themselves.

Stories, finger plays and activities for the whole family to enjoy together.

April 10, 2010, Saturday at 2:00 PM
Boots, Bridles and Books
Come to the library to learn about famous horses like Blaze, Flicka, Seabiscuit, Comanche and Trigger! In this session, we'll read books about horses and learn about riding them. Horse colors and breeds, horse safety, riding gear and much more are covered in this class. You won't want to miss the excitement of Boots, Bridles and Books at the library, provided by Kansas City's Sunset Trails Horse Stables.

Dino O'Dell's Turn Off Your TV
A friendly and fun reminder of the joy and creativity experienced without a TV. We'll sing, write impromptu lyrics and play instruments with live musicians. A great way to dance away the time without TV.

Mad Science Demonstrates Splash-Tastic Science

Frida Kahlo Surrealist Artist Collage
Bring in objects such as wallpaper, bottle caps, cloth, magazine pictures, photos, etc. to create a surrealist work of art. We'll view some of Mexican Artist Frida Kahlo's surrealist style of art.

Two Women, A Blackbeard and the Privateers
Delve into the history of piracy debunking the glamorous and romantic side of pirates and tell the real life story of Mary Read, Anne Bonney, Edward Teach "Blackbeard", John Paul Jones, and Jean Lafitte. Due to the graphic and scary content of material this program is for ages 13 and up.

Seasonal Flu Clinics

Health Department Influenza (flu) vaccination clinic schedule

During the flu season, flu shots for adults and children are available at the Health Department 2400 Troost Ave., during regular clinic hours from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, and from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Thursday. The clinics are closed from noon to 1 p.m. each day. Call (816) 513-6108 for fee information .

At all of our flu shot clinics, for those who bring documentation, we will bill Medicare or Medicaid on their behalf.

Class consists of teaching forms, sparring, basic self-defense and exercises. Start at beginner's level. Great chance to improve your shape and discipline.

Hillcrest Summer Enrichment Camp provides children with a fun, safe and supervised environment.  Children will participate in gym activities, arts & crafts, tennis, fieldtrips and "Tree Camp".  Tree Camp is a one day environmental camp, that provides fun hands-on learning experiences with nature.

Senior Lunches: 
Must call center for eating reservation 24 hours in advance.
Contribution of $2 per meal.  $5.00 per guest.

The Silver Sneakers program is a walking
and exercise program developed for seniors.
SilverSneakers offers an innovative blend of physical activity,
healthy lifestyle and socially oriented programming that allows
older adults to take greater control of their health.

Of course, come ready to spin some "Tall Tales" and other things. It will be a great chance to visit and learn more about each other.'
